I have been fortunate to have worked with Mary-Ellen on several MIF commissions over the last couple of Festivals. Her creativity is breathtaking and her focus and dedication to a project is admirable. She’s a team player whilst at the same time being a complete visionary in the food, drink and ideas spheres. I love working with Mary-Ellen as what she produces is memorable and unique.
— Christine Cort, Managing Director, Manchester International Festival
Mary-Ellen McTague was an absolute joy to work with- she is a true artist and her creativity and culinary skills are second to none. As the creator of the immersive theatrical food experience High Tea in Wonderland for Manchester International Festival she had the imagination to use the Herbarium at Manchester Museum for the setting, the menu was inventive, delicious and playful, and every detail from the characters, costumes, set, programme, music and decor was beautifully thought out and brilliantly executed. She is a generous collaborator and approached the project with humour, flexibility and artistic excellence. I can’t wait to work with her again!
— Jude Jagger, Producer, High Tea in Wonderland / MIF
Mary-Ellen is one of my favourite chefs. She is able to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary: to make soup an occasion, to cause you to think again about the cheese, oyster mushroom or brown sauce on your plate. She sources ingredients with a unique combination of diligence, knowledge and passion and inspires unbridled loyalty among those who know her (or simply eat her food). I’ve written about her work and collaborated with her over the last 10 years and I can safely say she’s never failed to astound me and everyone else around the table.
